From Louet NA comes this great video on how to create your own custom blended batts using their Junior drum carder. Pick your favourite fiber and colours and blend your perfect batt for spinning. The Junior drum carder is available at Just Knitting.
Felicia Lo of Sweet Georgia Yarns has just released a new pattern, Shattered Sun Shawl. This shawl is knit with just one skein of Cashsilk Lace and is the perfect cover-up for spring and summer evenings. The pattern can be purchased through Ravelry or our in-store Ravelry sales option.
Hope you enjoy this brief video by Felicia as she talks about her latest design.
We’ve decided to streamline things here a bit by combining both the blog and the newsletter to let you know what things have happened and what is coming up, more frequently.
We recently received a shipment of Tough Love Sock yarn and Tussah Silk spinning fibre from Sweet Georgia. Tough Love Sock is a blend of 80% superwash wool and 20% nylon to create a hardwearing but lustrous sock. However, don’t think just socks, this yarn can be used for any of those garments that call for a fingering weight yarn, such as the very popular lightweight open front cardigans that are perfect for spring and summer evenings.
Speaking of lightweight summer garments, I recently came across this pattern on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/floating that uses just two skeins of our Zephyr lace weight yarn.
A popular workshop we held recently was creating a needle felted easter egg, taught by local fibre artist Ann McElroy.

Beginner Crochet: Saturday, May 5 & 12. In this 2 week class participants will learn the basic stitches of crochet: chain stitch, single, double and treble crochet, while making a lacy cuff.
Beginner Lace: Saturday May 19 & 26. This two week class will guide you through knitting your first shawl. The first class will cover how to read charts and your knitting, demonstrate all the different stitches used in the shawl pattern, including how to identify and fix the most common mistakes, and get you started on your shawl. The second class will focus on the edging pattern, methods and tips of casting off and how to block your shawl.
I too have been learning something new, weaving. I had never planned on learning to weave, but somehow I managed to acquire a table top loom and other weaving supplies, not to mention the yarn I have that could be used in weaving projects. My latest acquisition has been a table loom from Louet that I hope to have this set-up in the store soon. Stop by and see how my progress is.
